Matchbook review: not quite Betfair

Matchbook is one of the oldest online betting sites in the market but can they hold their weight against others? The company has spent a number of years studying Betfair's methods that have made them the success they are today and applying their own twist to them. Find out in our Matchbook review.

Matchbook is a betting exchange platform that was founded in 2004, making it one of the oldest betting exchange platforms in the market.

Like all betting exchange platforms, they all face the major challenge of taking on the ever dominant betfair betting exchange. Although many ambitious bookmakers have tried taking on the challenge before, so far there haven’t been significant progress from anyone.

The company has spent a number of years studying Betfair’s methods that have made them the success they are today and applying their own twist to them.

Although they are currently nowhere near the size of Betfair, they have made great strides forward when compared to our ambitious bookmakers who have tried this before.

Matchbook promotions were once licensed and regulated by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission by then changed this for one issued by the UK Gambling Commission. In 2011, the bookmaker went under a major revamp when it was acquired by TripleBet and since then has greatly improved their service.

This change has been the backbone to the progress Matchbook Promotions has made in recent years.

matchbook review

Matchbook have remained extremely committed to their message of offering a betting exchange experience to users that maximises their potential winnings without too much bookmaker commission.

The ideology is backed up by the fact that Matchbook charge a minimal 1% commission on bets with resonates very well with punters as it gives them a sense of appreciation. The average rate for commission on betting exchange is roughly 5%.

New players are even benefit from a 0% commision on selected sports for a certain time period.

Liquidity has been a problem of the past, but with Matchbook promotion’s ever growing popularity this has become less of an issue. This issue is non-existent now with sports such as tennis and football.

A feature that has been well-received by its customers its low limits for minimum stakes, allowing punters of all type of stakes to use their platform.

Matchbook’s Betting Markets

In terms of range of markets that Matchbook offer is nowhere near as extensive as you would get from the established giants of the industry.

The main focus is on major sports such as horse racing, football, tennis and cricket. They do not have much options with regards to non-sports markets. There is also a lack of coverage on events they are offering, so you will not be able to keep up with live stats.

In terms of the odds they offer, they tend to offer above average odds. This combined with the fact they only charge 1% commission on bets, great value is being provided to their customers.

Customer Service

Matchbook have a good FAQs on their website which may answer your query and save you the time contacting the customer support staff.

Unfortunately, they do not offer 24/7 support on the mediums they have to offer. This is surprising given it has practically become a necessity in the betting industry.

The two mediums they offer their customer support through are live chat and telephone. This is clearly a lacking choice of options for customers.

When you are in contact with them, Matchbook’s support staff have been praised for their helpfulness many time in the past.

Matchbook’s Mobile App & Website

Matchbook homepage review

Matchbook’s mobile app is available on a wide range of platforms through their app stores. The app is available on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and Android. The links are available on Matchbook’s About Us page.

Their website is very smooth and slick, making it a joy to navigate through. This enhances the overall user experience.

Overall, both their mobile app and website are very user-friendly. This makes them usable by anybody. They have also successfully managed to offer identical experiences through its app and website.

Sign-Up Bonus

matchbook bonuses review

Betting exchange platforms have a tendency of not offering a welcome bonus when registering an account with them.

However, Matchbook have a welcome bonus on offer. The way it works is that although you will not be receiving money upfront, you will be reimbursed in the future,

The way it works is that for every £1 paid in commission to the bookmaker, you will receive one Matchbook point. Once you have five, you may claim £5 in free bets.

This is capped at £50 cashback.

Who Is Matchbook Good For?

Matchbook is good for punters who wish to focus on a betting exchange platform and wish to start with a welcome bonus to use as a learning curve at the start of their betting venture.

This being said, there is no other reason why a punter would not use Betfair’s betting exchange platform instead.

They are the most popular by miles and for the simple reason that there is no product currently that competes with them, including Matchbook.

Rating & Comments

With everything being considered, Matchbook is a solid betting exchange platform but suffers from the same dilemma everyone else does. It is simply not Betfair.

We have decided to give Matchbook a rating of 3/5. Matchbook have some strong points in their product, but again lacks certain aspects which stops it from being a major player.

Its lack of extensiveness in the range of markets they have to offer is the biggest flaw in their platform, as many customers will go to their website and not find the potential bets they would like to place their stakes on.
